The Sociological group "Rating" was inspired to conduct this research by results of the survey of readers of the American magazine Motor Trend as to the most irritating factors on the road. Of course, these researches are different, primarily because of different methods of their conduct, and therefore their comparison is not representative, yet it is possible to trace certain trends.
According to the research of the Sociological group "Rating" less than a third of the adult population of Ukraine aged over 18 drive cars, including active drivers - less than a quarter. The remaining respondents (nearly 70%) do not drive cars at all.
In the structure of Ukrainian drivers there are a lot more men (80%) and middle-aged people 30 to 49 years old (50%). By occupation there are more employees (23%) and workers (32%), people with higher (40%) and specialized secondary (40%) education in equal parts.
Thus, drivers are the most annoyed by their colleagues who cut in front of them (63%), park so that it complicates passage for other cars (51%), do not show the turn when they turn or move into another line of vehicles (46%) and dazzle with distance light at night (42%).
Also, drivers who drive on the center line of the road or between the lines (35%), refuse to let other cars pass (35%), exceed the speed limit (34%), talk on the mobile phone while driving (25%), unrestraint drivers who swear and gesticulate while driving (24%) and drivers who do not turn on green arrow while the light is red (22%) annoy others.
Ukrainian drivers are a lot less annoyed by slow drivers on the road (13%), drivers who listen to loud music in the car (14%), drive dirty cars in good weather (9%), smoke while driving (9%), always let other cars pass (5%). Only 3% of Ukrainian drivers are annoyed by no one and nothing on the road.
Compared with results of the survey of the U.S. magazine Motor Trend, American and Ukrainian drivers are equally annoyed by drivers who talk on the mobile phone while driving.
However, Ukrainian drivers are a lot more annoyed by drivers who cut in front of them all the time, do not show the turn, and do not turn on green arrow while the light is red. And much less annoyed by slow drivers. Thus, the origin and mental roots of the proverb "Slow and steady wins the race" looks quite logical.
A few interesting moments. Drivers who exceed the speed limit, talk on the mobile phone, smoke and listen to loud music in the car annoy passengers more than drivers. At the same time, passengers are practically not annoyed by slow drivers. Also passengers are more than three times less annoyed by drivers who cut in front of others. Obviously, passengers just do not understand this problem as such.
The target audience of the research: the population of Ukraine aged from 18 and older. Optional quantity: 2000 respondents. The methods of investigation: personal formalized interview according to the questionnaire (face to face). Measure of inaccuracy for the values close to 50% is less than 2,2%, for the values close to 30% – less than 2%, for the values close to 10% – less than 1,3. The period of completion: 25 of October – 6 of November 2011.
