According to the research conducted by the Sociological group "Rating" in March 2011, five greatest threats to the country are: economic decline of the country (53% of respondents), growth of unemployment (47%), depreciation of hryvnia (23%), arbitrariness of the government (23%) and degradation of the population (18%).
Next in the rating of threats are: deterioration of health services (15%), growth of the crime rate (13%), environmental disasters (13%), mass migration of Ukrainians abroad (11%), split in the country (9%), demographic crisis (9%) possible loss of independence (9%), the threat of civil war (8%), decline in the level of education (7%).
In addition, 6% of respondents fear the threat of losing control over the Ukrainian gas transport system, 5% - anticonstitutional upheaval, 3% - military threat on the part of Russia, 2% - threat of terrorism, 1% - the military threat on the part of the West.
Only 2% of surveyed Ukrainians do not feel any threats.
TENDENCIES:
- Over the year (the previous survey was conducted in March 2010) among Ukrainian citizens the feeling of threat of economic decline has somewhat decreased - from 56% to 53%. The tendency is characteristic of all regions except Donbas, where the number of surveyed citizens, who fear economic decline, has, on the contrary, increased from 60% to 67%.
- The feeling of threat of environmental disasters has also decreased (from 15% to 13%), as well as the threat of split in the country (from 14% to 9%), losing control over the GTS (from 8% to 6%), anticonstitutional upheaval (from 8% to 5%).
- Instead, over a year citizens started to fear the growth of unemployment more (from 42% to 47%) degradation of the population (from 16% to 18%), mass migration of Ukrainians abroad (from 7% to 11%), demographic crisis (from 6% to 9%) , the threat of civil war (from 5% to 8%), decline in the level of education in the country (from 5% to 7%).
- Just like one year ago, a quarter of surveyed Ukrainians feel threatened by depreciation of hryvnia and arbitrariness of the government, almost every sixth respondent – by deterioration of health services and growth of crime rate.
- In the West of the country feelings of threat of the growth of unemployment, arbitrariness of the government, degradation of the population and environmental disasters have increased the most. Threats of depreciation of hryvnia, split in the country, loss of independence, military threat on the part of Russia have decreased.
- In the Centre feelings of threat of the growth of unemployment, deterioration of health services, mass migration of Ukrainians abroad, demographic crisis, the threat of civil war, decline in the level of education have increased the most. Threats of depreciation of hryvnia, arbitrariness of the government, growth of crime, split in the the country have decreased.
- In the North feelings of threat of the growth of unemployment and depreciation of hryvnia have increased the most, threats of environmental disasters and split in the country have decreased.
- In the East feelings of threat of the growth of unemployment, deterioration of health services and the level education have increased the most; threats of arbitrariness of the government, degradation of the population have decreased.
- In the South feelings of threat of deterioration of health services, degradation of the population and the threat of civil war have increased the most. Threats of arbitrariness of the government, split in the country and the military threat on the part of the West have decreased.
- In Donbas feelings of threat of depreciation of hryvnia, the growth of crime and demographic crisis have increased the most. Fear of environmental disasters has decreased.
The target audience of the research: the population of Ukraine aged from 18 and older. Optional quantity: 2000 respondents. The methods of investigation: personal formalized interview according to the questionnaire (face to face). Measure of inaccuracy for the values close to 50% is less than 2,2%, for the values close to 30% – less than 2%, for the values close to 10% – less than 1,3.
